Vinnie’s soccer career began in 1984 when he joined Wealdstone, a club that competed in the Alliance Premier League at the time, but after 26 games he joined IFK Holmsund, with which he won the third division of the Swedish championship. After that, he moved to Wimbledon, a club that paid £10,000 to Wealdstone, and where he played until 1989, recording 77 appearances including winning the FA Cup in 1988. After Wimbledon he joined Leeds United, and led the team to the Football League Second Division championship, and promotion to the Premier League to compete with the top English teams.
