Tupac Shakur was born in 1971, in New York, US, under the name of Lesane Parish Crooks. Tupac attended the Baltimore School for the Arts, where he met one of his closest friends Jada Pinkett. At the age of 17, Tupac together with his family moved out to Marin City, where together with his group called “Strictly Dope” he had his very first concert. This led to Tupac being signed as a backup dancer to the alternative hip hop group “Digital Underground”. It was with this band that Tupac started his professional rapping career. After making a debut on one of the songs on “Digital Underground” album, in 1991 Tupac came out with his very first studio work “2Pacalypse Now”. The album raised a lot of controversy at the time with its political themes and issues emphasized through rough and brutal lyrics. Nevertheless, the album sold more than 923 thousand copies worldwide and attracted a lot of attention to Tupac’s work. Controversy followed Tupac throughout the rest of his rapping career and the releases of his albums “Thug Life: Volume 1”, “Me Against the World” and “All Eyez on Me” only contributed to Tupac’s portrayal in the media as a criminal. In 1992, Tupac took a brief step from rapping and debuted in the main role alongside Omar Epps in a crime drama film “Juice”. He then starred with Kidada Jones in “Poetic Justice”, and appeared with Tim Roth and Thandie Newton in “Gridlock’d”.

  1. Being well known to be outspoken on issues of race,equal rights,disparities of wealth,police brutality,womes issues etc.. I know he’s now turning over in his grave knowing that all he’s worked for and all he suffered through,all of his money and work is now in the hands of non black opportunistic strangers. The people he fought to help during life are now being ignored while his fortune goes to fund some jerks lavish lifestyle. Had he known this or that his mother would be murdered because of it,I’m sure he would’ve never recorded a single song. RIP Tupac Amaru Shakur alias Makevelli.
