In 2013 he ran for mayor of Romeoville, Illinois. This year 2010 he was inducted in to the College Soccer Hall of Fame. McMichael was a defensive deal with and was drafted #73 by the brand new England Patriots in 1980. He performed for the Patriots in 1980, the Chicago Bears from 1981 to 1983, and the Green Bay Packers in 1994.
