Simon attended Cranmore School and would later go to the Royal Grammar School at Guildford. After matriculating, he attended Queens’ College, Cambridge and studied English, during which time he was the President of the sketch and theatrical group called Footlights.
After graduating, Bird then pursued an MA at Birkbeck College focused on cultural and critical studies. During his time there, he set up the comedy sketch group called “The House of Windsor” which consisted of former Footlights members; they performed at the Edinburgh Festival in 2007 and 2008, receiving great reviews and even attention from the national media.
