In 2011 Rivera got his first head training work with the Carolina Panthers. Rivera was inducted in to the College Soccer Hall of Fame in 2003 and was inducted in to the Cal Sports activities Hall of Fame in 1994. Rivera was an All-American linebacker for the University of California and earned a brilliant Bowl championship playing for the Chicago Bears in 1985 where he performed from 1984 to 1992. In 1997 he was employed by the Bears as their protective quality control trainer until 1998. Rivera became a member of the Philadelphian Eagles as linebackers trainer from 1999 to 2003.
