Sen attended Bidya Bharati Girls’ High School. Upon matriculating in 1998, she enrolled at the University of Calcutta, obtaining a degree in Commerce. She also trained in Odissi dance under the acclaimed dancer Aloka Kanungo. After completing her education, she headed to Mumbai, to pursue a career in acting, something that she had dreamed of since her childhood. During this time, she changed her name from Shubhamitra Sen to Rimi Sen, and later to just Rimmi, to distinguish herself from the many other Sens in the Bollywood film industry. After appearing in several commercials, and establishing her net worth as one of them was a Coca-Cola ad with Aamir Khan, Sen drew some attention to herself, and bigger opportunities started to roll in.

She began her film career in 2000, appearing in a Bengali drama “Paromitar Ek Din”. The following year she made her Telugu debut, with the role of Anjali in the film “Ide Naa Modati Prema Lekha”, and went on to appear in another Telugu film, the 2002 “Nee Thodu Kavali”. Her debut Hindi film came in 2003, a comedy entitled “Hungama”. She started to get recognized in the Indian acting world, and her net worth began to increase.

The year 2004 saw the actress landing a role in a big-budget Bollywood action thriller film “Dhoom”, in which she played the lead part as Sweety Dixit, a role for which she had to lose eight kilos. The film was a commercial success, enabling Sen to earn a sizable income, and her performance also earned her a great recognition, paving her way to other major roles. Such roles came already in the following year, when she secured the part of Anjali in the Hindi comedy film “Garam Masala”, and played Maya in the drama film “Kyon Ki, reinforcing her popularity and further expanding her net worth.

She went on to land roles in films like “Deewane Huye Paagal ” and “Phir Hera Pheri”, before another big part came in 2006, when she was cast with the lead role of Niraali in the Bollywood comedy drama film “Golmaal: Fun Unlimited”, which earned both critical and commercial success. She subsequently appear in another critically acclaimed film, the 2007 neo-noir thriller “Johnny Gaddaar”, performances which cemented her fame and improved her net worth considerably.

However, she then appeared in several box-office failures, such as the 2008 “De Taali” and the 2009 “Sankat City” and “Horn ‘Ok’ Pleassss”, as well as the 2011 “Thank you” and “Shagird”, which effectively marked the end of her acting career. Sen has recently pursued producing. For her new career, she took back her birth name, Subhamitra Sen, and went on to produce her first project in 2016, the biographical sports film “Budhia Singh – Born to Run”.

In 2015 Sen became one of the celebrity contestants in the ninth season of the Indian version of the popular reality television show “Big Brother”, entitled “Bigg Boss”, and was evicted seven weeks later. The show greatly added to her wealth.

The actress-turned-producer is involved in politics too, being a member of the Indian People’s Party.

When it comes to her private life, Sen has been quite secretive about it, and there is no information or even rumours available to the media when it comes to her relationship status.
