After high school, Rebecca enrolled at the University of Connecticut; she was in position to choose between 100 universities, but chose Connecticut, as she thought they had the best educational system.

In 1997, WNBA was officially in augurated, and she was selected by the New York Liberty, marking the beginning of an increase in her net worth, signing a professional contract with the team. She played for the New York Liberty until 2001, when she was selected by the Houston Comets in the expansion draft.
