Randy was born the older son of Judy and Angelo Poffo and was of a Jewish descent from his mother’s and of Italian-American ancestry from his father’s side. His younger brother, Lanny Poffo is also a professional wrestler. Randy attended Grover Cleveland Middle School and later enrolled at Downers Grove North High School in Downers Grove, Illinois. In 1970, he was signed by the St. Louis Cardinals where he began his minor league baseball career as an outfielder. After 289 games during four seasons and after an injury to his throwing shoulder, Randy abandoned his baseball career and decided to pursue one in wrestling.

Randy Savage debuted in the machinery of the wrestling business in 1973. In the beginning he was involved within “outlaw” International Championship Wrestling (ICW), but after wining the ICW Title, he transferred to Jerry Lawler‘s Continental Wrestling Association. In 1985, Randy signed with Vince McMahon‘s WWF and gained international attention. During his first year in the wrestling, Randy managed to beat the then Champion, the notorious Hulk Hogan, not once but twice! However, due to countout, he didn’t win the title. In 1986 Randy won his first WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight Champion Title after beating Tito Santana, by using a hidden and illegal steel object to knock him out. These accomplishments provided the basis for Randy Savage’s overall net worth.

After winning the King of the Road Tournament in 1987, Randy Savage’s popularity hugely increased so, despite being the heel (the bad guy), he was generously cheered by the fans. In 1988, at Wrestlemania IV after the 14-man tournament and beating Butch Reed, Greg Valentine, One Man Gang and Ted “The Million Dollar Man” DiBiase, Randy Savage won his second WWF Heavyweight Championship title. It is certain that these achievements provided a massive boost to his overall net worth at that time.

In 1991, Randy Savage retired from his professional wrestling career, but stayed in the business as a color commentator in which he served ’til 1994. However, in 1994 after signing a $6-million contract with WCW, he returned as a fighter, and during the next 10 years, Randy Savage was featured in WCW World Heavyweight Champion, New World Order as well as Team Madness and The Millionaire’s Club. Apart from many others, Randy also won four World Heavyweight Champion Titles. Doubtlessly, all these successful ventures dramatically increased Randy Savage’s overall wealth.

After one season at Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), in 2005 Randy Savage retired from professional wrestling. Apart from his fighting career, he also appeared in several non-wrestling related motion pictures including the TV series “Walker, Texas Ranger” and “The X’s” as well as in the movies “Spider-Man” (2002) and the 2008 animated adventure “Bolt” in which he voice acted, plus appearing in over a dozen wrestling video games. All these engagements increased his new worth by a large margin.

When it comes to his personal life, Randy Savage married Elizabeth Hulette, fellow pro wrestler known under her stage name “Miss Elizabeth” in 1984 – prior to their divorce in 1992, at some point she served as his manager. In 2010, Randy married his “high school sweetheart” Barbara Lynn Payne with whom he stayed until his death in 2011. Randy Savage passed away from cardiac arrhythmia at the age of 58, on the 20th May 2011 in Seminole, Florida, USA.
