Ralph really began his career in 1983, as the vocalist of the band ‘New Edition’, however, although moderately successful, in 1989 he left the band and began a solo career, subsequently releasing three studio albums, ten singles and one music video which increased Tresvant’s net worth considerably. His music video ‘Voices That Care’ (1991) was directed by David S. Jackson, but his most successful release was his self-titled debut album in 1990, which topped the R&B chart in the US, while achieving platinum certification. His second and third albums entitled ‘It’s Goin’ Down’ released in 1993 and ‘Rizz-Wa-Faire’ in 2006 reached respectively only 24th and 88th places on the US R&B chart.

Talking about his singles releases, the situation is pretty much the same: Ralph’s first single entitled ‘Sensitivity’ released in 1990 has been the most successful, reaching #1 on the R&B chart and achieving gold certification in the US. Moreover, he has released two guest singles, namely ‘Voices That Care’ in 1991 and ‘The Best Things in Life Are Free’  in 1992. In 2008, Tresvant joined the Head of State band alongside Johnny Gill and Bobby Brown. The band has constantly toured throughout the US, considerably raising Ralph’s popularity and net worth.

Aside from his music career, Ralph has appeared on the big screen too. He took part in the 1985 films ‘Krush Groove’  directed by Michael Schultz, ‘House Party 2’ in 1990 directed by Doug McHenry, ‘Barbershop Blues’ in 2004 directed by Stephen Allen, and the  documentary film ‘Triple Cross: Bin Laden’s Spy in America’ in 2006 written by Jonathan Towers. More recently, Ralph appeared in ‘Mama, I Want to Sing!’ in 2012, directed by Charles Randolph-Wright, and ‘Get On Up’ in 2014.

In his personal life, Ralph Tresvant married high school sweetheart Shelley in 1993, but they divorced in 1996 after having two daughters. Ralph subsequently married Amber Serrano in 2004 – the family resides in Acworth, Georgia..
