Born Philip Douglas Taylor on the 13th August 1960 in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, England, Phil is a professional darts player who is considered the best player in the history of the sport, having won more than 200 professional titles, including 16 World Championships, which is a record, and 85 major titles.

Phil is the son of Liz Taylor and her husband Doug. He didn’t finish high school as he quit when he was 16 years old and started looking for a job. He was first employed at a sheet metal factory, making ceramic toilet roll handles. This job would give him £52 a week, but that just wasn’t enough. He was looking for a new way to support himself, and now a family as in the meantime he married Yvonne. In 1986 they moved into a terraced house in Burslem, located near the pub Crafty Cockney, owned by a professional darts player Eric Bristow. He started playing darts on an amateur level at the bar and his wife bought him a set of darts as a birthday gift. Phil improved his skill rapidly, and with the help of Eric himself, lending him the money needed to begin competing, and with occasional advice.

In 1993 happened a split in the Darts organization; Phil and 15 other top darts players, including Dennis Priestley, Rod Harrington, John Lowe, Jocky Wilson, Peter Evison and Kevin Spiolek among others, formed their own league, called World Darts Council. In the beginning, the governing body of the Darts sport in the UK – the British Darts Organisation (BDO) – was against the newly formed league and organization, prohibiting the 16 players from participating in all events organized by the BDO.
