Pete Best was raised with two siblings by Donald Peter Scanland, who worked as a marine engineer, and his wife, Alice Mona Best, who worked as a doctor with the Red Cross. When he was four, the family moved from India to Liverpool, England, where his mother opened The Casbah Coffee Club in the basement of their house, and where he started playing the drums with brother. He attended Liverpool Collegiate Grammar School, and during studies he resolved that he wanted to be a part of a music group. Thus, before he became a “Beatle”, Pete performed in a number of bands, including the Black Jacks, however, after the band broke up, he auditioned for The Beatles, and was hired as he was the only drummer who wanted to go with them to Hamburg for their first concert. The band picked up positive critiques from the public, and went into the studio to record their debut album. Pete was waived from the band, before the album was released, but the real reason still remains a mystery; there was some speculation that he just wasn’t good enough for The Beatles, but it has never been confirmed.
After The Beatles, Pete was offered a new contract and a band around him, but he refused, as he was feeling depressed, and didn’t want to talk to anyone.
