Young started playing basketball when he attended Cleveland High School in Raseda, California. He averaged around 10.8 rebounds and 27.2 points during his senior year and earned first team honors. From 2004-2007 he attended college at USC and opted to play for the Trojans, earning All-Pac-10 First Team honors twice in two years. In 2007, Young led the Trojans to the Sweet Sixteen, winning against Arkansas and Kevin Durant’s Texas Longhorns, eventually losing to the North Carolina Tar Heels.
