Leslie Caron Net Worth $10 Million

Leslie was born to Margaret Petit, a dancer on Broadway and Claude Caron a chemist and pharmacist. She took after her mother and pursued an artistic career, firstly as a ballerina. Caron was discovered by Gene Kelly in the “Roland Petit” company, who cast her as his co-star in “An American in Paris” film musical in 1951, and thanks to this, she signed a long-term MGM contract which secured her a series of films, including the same year in “The Man With a Cloak”(1951) co-starring Barbara Stanwyck and Joseph Cotton, and “The Glass Slipper” (1955). She also appeared in successful musicals “Lili”(1953) – receiving an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress – “Daddy Long Legs”(1955) next to Fred Astaire, and “Gigi”(1958). Her later appearance in “The L-Shaped Room” (1962) won her BAFTA and Golden Globe awards, and the Best Actress Oscar nomination.

Apart from her US career, Caron also worked in European films; her later projects included “Father Goose”(1964) in which she starred next to Cary Grant, “Valentino”(1977) in the role of Alla Nazimova, and “Damage”(1992).

Aside from performing, Leslie was a member of the jury at the 5th Moscow International Film Festival’s in 1967 and the 39th Berlin International Film Festival in 1989. During the ‘80s she starred in the “Falcon Crest” TV series, and her later activity includes films such as “Funny Bones”(1995), “The Last of the Blonde Bombshells”(2000), “Chocolat”(2000) and “Le Divorce”(2003). Her guest appearance in the popular TV series “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” brought her a Primetime Emmy Award in 2007. She was given a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in December 2009.

When it comes to her private life, Leslie has married three times. Her first marriage was to George Hormel III from 1951 to 1954, her second was to theatre director Peter Hall whom she married in 1956 and with whom she had two children – Christopher John Hall, a TV producer and Jennifer Caron Hall, a writer, actress and painter. 1Even now, I feel furious with myself because whenever there's a camera pointed towards me, my MGM training makes me smile. I don't like it. You can see it on all the people who came from that era because there was no question of them not smiling for the camera. Even Katharine Hepburn -- and God knows she was a dramatic actress -- if the camera is on her, she smiles.
2Unfortunately, Hollywood considers musical dancers as hoofers. Regrettable expression.

14She was nominated for a 1975 Joseph Jefferson Award for Best Guest Artist for her performance in the play, "13 Rue De L'Amour", at the Arlington Park Theatre in Chicago, Illinois.
15Her first marriage to musician, composer and meat-packing planet heir (Hormel Foods) Geordie Hormel ended after three years. 19Her talent as a dancer had been already noticed in 1948 by Gene Kelly and his wife Betsy Blair in a Roland Petit's ballet on the theme of Oedipus, but they could not meet her at the end of the show, because she went home like a good girl.
20When she told Fred Astaire that she wanted to create her own costumes for Daddy Long Legs (1955), he responded: "Okay, but no feathers, please." Astaire recalled the exasperation he had with one of Ginger Rogers' elaborate gowns in a dance scene in Top Hat (1935). Some ostrich feathers broke loose from Ginger Rogers' gown and mischievously floated in mid air around Astaire's face. The shedding dress episode was recreated to hilarious effect in a scene from Easter Parade (1948) in which Fred Astaire danced with a clumsy, comical dancer played by Judy Garland.
