Interesting Facts

#Fact
1 While many critics consider The Simpsons (1989) and Seinfeld (1989) to be the two most revolutionary comedies of the 1990's, with several even lauding them as the two funniest shows ever, Louis-Dreyfus is the only regular cast member of either series to make an appearance on the other. However, Yeardley Smith, voice of Lisa Simpson, unsuccessfully auditioned for the titular role in the Seinfeld episode "The Secretary" and actors Marisa Tomei, Lawrence Tierney, Kathy Griffin, Bryan Cranston, Dana Gould, Bette Midler and Jon Lovitz have made guest appearances on both series.
2 Received her 14th Emmy Award nomination in 2014 making her the most-nominated comedic actress in the lead and supporting categories in Emmy Award history.
3 Her father fled from France to the United States during World War II.
4 Great grandfather Léopold Louis-Dreyfus founded the Louis Dreyfus Group. Her father Gérard Louis-Dreyfus is the chairman of Louis Dreyfus Energy Services. Her father's net worth was estimated at $3.4 billion by Forbes magazine in 2006. Her cousin, the late Robert Louis-Dreyfus meanwhile was the CEO and owner of Adidas from 1993 to 2001.
5 In contrast to her real-life solid marriage of 27 years, Julia's career has been entirely comprised of playing usually unhappy single or divorced women.
6 Appeared on the cover of Home & Country magazine which featured an article on homes in Montecito, California where she has a second home. [October 2005]
7 Attached to HBO pilot, "VEEP." [January 2011]

9 Filming HBO pilot "VEEP" In Washington DC area [February 2011]
10 Appeared in a reading of Arthur Miller's newest play (and first comedy), "Resurrection Blues", in New York. [August 2004]
11 Her father was born in France and her mother was born in the United States. Julia's paternal grandfather was from a French Jewish family. Julia's paternal grandmother, who was also American-born, had English, German and Mexican ancestry. Julia's mother's ancestry includes English, French, German, Scottish and Scots-Irish (Northern Irish).

15 Gave birth to her first child at age 31, a son Henry Hall on July 1, 1992. Child's father is her husband, Brad Hall.
16 During a visit to "Ellen", Bradley Whitford revealed that his (then) wife, Jane Kaczmarek received a big bouquet of flowers from Julia-Louis Dreyfus the day after the Emmy Awards. Both Jane and Julia were nominated in the category Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and Jane had been highly tipped to win for Malcolm in the Middle (2000) but the Emmy was given to Julia-Louis Dreyfus for The New Adventures of Old Christine (2006). With the bouquet was a card with the words "You Got Screwed".

20 Chosen by Forbes magazine as one of the 10 Hottest Billionaire Heiresses. [2006]
21 Is the first, and thus far only, one of the four primary cast members of Seinfeld (1989) to have received a Razzie Award nomination. She was nominated for Worst Supporting Actress in 1998 for her performance in the film Fathers' Day (1997). However, she ultimately lost the award to Alicia Silverstone in Batman & Robin (1997).
22 Her second home in Montecito, California, is solar-powered, radiant-heated, and built from recycled materials.
23 Was originally slated to play Alison Stern in Private Parts (1997), Howard Stern's biopic. She dropped out to spend more time with her children.
24 It was announced that her television series, Watching Ellie (2002) has been canceled by NBC. Lasting one year, it more than doubled the staying power of fellow Seinfeld (1989) alumni Jason Alexander and Michael Richards' series, but failed to draw a wide enough audience to warrant renewal. [June 2003]
25 Is included in Richard Roeper's list of actresses who have never done nude scenes in his latest book, "Ten Sure Signs a Movie Character is Doomed, and Other Surprising Movie Lists". When asked about this by Conan O'Brien, Dreyfus stated that she had never been asked to do one.

29 Her grandfather, Pierre Louis-Dreyfus, was a member of the French Resistance during World War II, and flew 88 missions for Charles de Gaulle's Free French Air Force.
30 Both her parents remarried after their divorce, and she has two half-sisters from her mother's second marriage and two half-sisters from her father's second marriage. She considers both her stepparents to be as important in her life as her biological parents.
31 Performed improv with Chicago's Second City and the Practical Theatre Company, started by her husband, Brad Hall.
32 Attended and graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois (1982). She was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority.

34 Daughter of Gerard Louis-Dreyfus, a French billionaire businessman.
35 Both she and her husband, Brad Hall, appeared as part of NBC's Saturday Night Live (1975) cast in early 1980s. They are the only husband/wife team to do so.

Quotes

#Quote
1 I'm open to any material that's good. Be it a short film, be it a feature length film. I mean, good ideas aren't low-hanging fruit ready to be picked. They're sometimes very hard to come by. So I'm interested in good ideas no matter what form they take.
2 [2014, on continuing her pivotal role on Veep (2012)] I think there's something to be said for working as a group, collaborating over a period of time. Needless to say, we know each other and we have seen each other's rhythms, managed to pull together a really fine group of actors, writers, directors. It's a good dance we've got going along right now.
3 [on the current television production scene] It has certainly changed. The business model of television, meaning the currency of ratings, is not what it used to be back in the early days of Seinfeld (1989). It's sort of the wild, wild west, because now there are so many platforms and areas for good television, which is really exciting. I love working in pay cable because, from a creative point-of-view, the latitude is so phenomenal.
4 [on undertaking the role of Eva in Enough Said (2013)] I was such a massive Nicole Holofcener fan that it was an irresistible cocktail. She has such a distinctive voice, don't you think?
5 [on Nicole Holofcenter] She runs a set that that's very, very, very relaxed. Her dog comes to the set, her kids come to the set, my kids come to the set, my parents come to the set, my best friend from the third grade, her best friend. There is a comfort she promotes on set that helps everybody relaxed into behaving I would say as realistically as possible.
6 I love the film festival circuit. I think there's something about it, I don't know. Maybe I'm being Pollyanna-ish about this, but it's an opportunity to be very supportive of filmmakers, and there's just this goodwill which I love.
7 [2013, on accepting an Emmy Award for Veep (2012)] This is so much good fortune it is almost too much to bear. I'm very grateful to have the opportunity to make people laugh. It's a joyful way to make a living.
8 Whenever I felt down, my mom would remind me that sense of humor gets you through just about anything.
9 [on playing the leading character on Veep (2012)] Well, let's see. I personally am not the Vice-President of the United States. I want to make sure everyone understands that. But the aspect of presenting yourself in a certain way to the public and be liked - there is a parallel between public life and life as a person in show business, and that's sort of fun to draw on. I'm trying to watch a lot of in-between moments on C-SPAN.
10 I will quote Norman Lear, who said that celebrity is something you can spend. And so I have taken my so-called celebrity and occasionally spent it down on causes or things that I'm passionate about. I'm not running for office. I'm not a scientist. But I'm a concerned citizen.
11 I'm not somebody who really believes in curses, but curse this baby! [on the so called "Seinfeld curse", in which little or no success has come since the show to the four main actors, upon accepting her Emmy Award for The New Adventures of Old Christine (2006)]
