Jevon is the son of Joseph Kearse and his wife Lessie Mae Kearse; he went to the North Fort Myers High School, where he began playing football for the North Fort Myers Red Knights in the strong safety and tight end positions, and soon brought attraction from universities all around the USA. After high school, Jevon enrolled at the University of Florida, continuing his football career playing under Steve Spurier for the Florida Gators football team in the period from 1995 until 1998.
