While with the Bears, he was a four-period Pro Bowl selection, a 5-period AP First-Group All-Pro selection, a 3-period Pro Bowl Co-MVP, a 2-period NFL Rushing champion, and both UPI NFL Rookie of the entire year, and UPI NFL Comeback Participant of the entire year. He continued to play college soccer at the University of Kansas, where he was a two-period All-American and arranged an NCAA Division 1 backyard record. The Chicago Bears drafted him in 1965, and he continued to play for the group for another six years. He performed soccer and competed on the monitor team while in senior high school, setting an extended jump condition record. His publication, “I Am Third”, influenced the movie, “Brian’s Music”. He was inducted in to the Pro Soccer Hall of Fame in 1977, and the Chicago Bears retired his quantity.
