Flavia Pennetta was born on the 25th February 1982, in Brindisi, Italy, and is a retired professional tennis player, who was the first Italian to reach a top 10 ranking, and to be ranked No. 1 in doubles; Pennetta won 28 WTA singles titles, including the 2015 US Open, and the 2011 Australian Open in doubles with partner Gisela Dulko. She was a part of the Italian national team that won the Fed Cup on four occasions (2006, 2009, 2010, and 2013), and her highest position in the WTA rankings was No.6 on the 28th September 2015. Pennetta’s career started in 2000 and ended in 2015.

Also in 2004, she lost in the Palermo finals to Anabel Medina Garrigues, but in August that year, Flavia won her first WTA title after defeating Klára Koukalová on clay at the Orange Prokom Open, Sopot, Poland, which only increased her net worth. Pennetta won both finals she participated in 2005; at Copa Colsanitas, Bogotá, Colombia against Lourdes Domínguez Lino, and against Ľudmila Cervanová in Acapulco, increasing further her wealth.

Flavia then lost four straight finals before she won the PTT Bangkok Open, Thailand in 2007, defeating Chan Yung-jan, which was her first title on a hard surface. By the end of 2008, Flavia was victorious at Cachantún Cup, Viña del Mar, Chile, and at Acapulco, winning over Klára Zakopalová and Alizé Cornet, respectively. In July 2009, Pennetta defeated her compatriot Sara Errani to clinch the title at Internazionali Femminili di Palermo, Italy, while she ended the year with another hard court victory, this time over Samantha Stosur at the LA Women’s Tennis Championships, Los Angeles, USA.

From 2010 to 2014, Pennetta played in five WTA finals, but only won one, at Andalucia Tennis Experience, Marbella, Spain against Carla Suárez Navarro in three sets in April 2010. One of the most valuable trophies in her cabinet is certainly from the BNP Paribas Open, Indian Wells, USA, when she destroyed Agnieszka Radwańska 6–2, 6–1 to claim her first Masters’ title. In September 2015, Flavia won her first and only Grand Slam title with a straight sets win over compatriot Roberta Vinci at the US Open, New York, adding a substantial amount to her net worth.

Pennetta won 17 titles in doubles from 2005 to 2014. Eleven of these titles came in partnership with Argentinian player Gisela Dulko, including the most precious one at the 2011 Australian Open, Melbourne.
