Paul Kagame Net Worth

Published

on

Paul Kagame was born on the 23th October 1957 in Tambwe, Ruanda-Urundi, which is now Nyarutovu, Rwanda, and is a politician, best known to the world as the president of Rwanda since 2000, and president of the ruling party, the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF).

Have you ever wondered how rich Paul Kagame is, as of early 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Kagame’s net worth is as high as $500 million, an amount earned through his successful career as a politician.

Paul Kagame Net Worth $500 Million

Paul is the youngest of six children born to a Tutsi member, Deogratias who had blood ties with King Mutara III, and Asteria Rutagambwa, a descendant from the family of the last Rwandan queen, Rosalie Gicanda. Rwanda’s ethnicity comprised three groups, Tutsi, who were the rulers of the country although a minority, then Hutu who are agriculturalist, and Twa, a forest-dwelling pygmy people, who were descendants of Rwanda’s earliest inhabitants.

Hutu and Tutsi were always in conflict, which resulted in the 1959 Rwandan Revolution, when Hutu activists started killing Tutsi people. Paul and his family escaped the country and sought refuge in neighboring countries, settling in Uganda in the Toro sub-region in 1962. There, Kagame met Fred Rwigyema, with whom Paul later formed the Rwandan Patriotic Front. He started his education process in a school located near a refugee camp, where he also learned English and was preparing to integrate into Ugandan culture. When he turned nine, Paul started studying at Rwengoro Primary School, and later attended Ntare School. However, his father’s death set back his education, as he wasn’t as much focused on school, but rather on fighting those who belittled the Rwandan population. This all resulted in a suspension from Ntare School, and he then finished his education at Old Kampala Secondary School.

Following education, Paul made a couple of visits to his native country, looking for his family, and focused on exploration of the country, its political and social status, while also making new friendships, which would eventually prove useful to him.

In the late ’70s, Paul rejoined with Fred Rwigyema, with whom he pledged allegiance to Museveni, a member of the transition government of Uganda, and as it turned out, a future president of Uganda. He then traveled to Tanzania, where he trained to become a spy, and later rejoined Museveni in his National Resistence Army, becoming a senior officer of the Ugandan army. Rwigyema then invaded Rwanda with 4,000 rebels, while Paul was in the USA taking a course at the Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth. Fred was killed, and Paul returned from the USA and assumed the position of the leader of the RPF, and three years later in 1993, he signed peace treaties in Arusha, which have become known as the Arusha Accords. Paul and his party received positions in a broad=based transitional government, and also in the army.

The following year another major incident struck Rwanda, as their president Juvénal Habyarimana died in a plane crash, alongside Burundian president Cyprien Ntaryamira. After Habyarimana’s death, a military committee led by Colonel Théoneste Bagosora, took the leading positions in the country, and started killing Hutu and Tutsi opposition politicians and prominent people of the Tutsi ethnic group. This resulted in a Rwandan Genocide, but Kagame led his rebels against the military, and the same year managed to assume full control of the country. Estimates put casualties at at least 1.5 million during these conflicts. Paul then served as its Vice President and Minister of Defence, under President Pasteur Bizimungu, and subsequently assumed the position of president in 2000, and since then has been the ruler of the country. His presidential position significantly increased his net worth, while his several business ventures also added to his wealth. In 2003, first presidential elections were held, and Paul won with 95.1% of the votes. His second tenure lasted until 2010, when the next elections were held, and this time Kagame was supported by 93.08% of the voters. In 2015 he changed the constitution, giving himself a chance to run again for presidency in the 2017 elections.

Kagame is apparently genuinely popular, especially given the progress in growing the economy over the last decade. From his first term, Rwanda began to develop on key elements, education and health care system, while also putting all efforts into keeping friendly relationships with surrounding countries, including DR Congo, Uganda, Burundi, Kenya and Tanzania among other East African countries.

Regarding his personal life, Kagame has been married to Jeannette Nyriamongi since 1989; the couple has four children together.

Regarding his political career, Weah formed the political party Congress for Democratic Change in 2004, and in 2005 Weah ran for the presidency of Liberia, although at that stage poor formal education and lack of political experience were considered the main reasons why he was inappropriate to lead the country, in contrast to the main counter-candidate, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, educated at Harvard University with administrative experience both in the Liberian government and in the World Bank and the United Nations. Weah continued to be involved in politics as the leader of the CDC, leading the party in the campaign for the 2009 legislative elections. In 2012, he unsuccessfully ran for the post of vice-president losing to Joseph Boakai. In 2014, Weah was elected a senator in the Liberian Parliament, but in the three-year term, he only occasionally attended Senate meetings and contributed no legislative initiative. Finally, in the personal life of George Weah, he is married to Kler Vea. They have three children.

Omar al-Bashir Net Worth

Published

on

Born Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir on the 1st January 1944 in Hosh Bannaga, Sudan, he is a Sudanese politician, best known to the world as the seventh President of the aforementioned country, serving in the position since 1989.

Have you ever wondered how rich Omar al-Bashir is, as of mid- 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that al-Bashir’s net worth is as high as $1 billion, an amount earned through his political career. However, there is a strong suspicion that Omar has billions of dollars in foreign bank accounts.

Omar al-Bashir Net Worth $1 Billion

Omar is of Arab ancestry; his descendants come from the Al-Bedairyya Al-Dahmashyya tribe, which is a Bedouin tribe and now a part of a much larger Ja’alin coalition. He spent his early years in his hometown, and then moved to the national capital Khartoum, where he finished secondary education.

Once he finished secondary school, Omar joined the Sudanese Army, and was soon sent to study at the Egyptian Military Academy in Cairo, while he also finished studies at the Sudan Military Academy in Khartoum in 1966. During his military service, in no time he was promoted to paratroop officer, and then served in the Egyptian Army in the Yom Kippur War, in which Egypt and Syria joined forces against Israel. Two years later he became a Sudanese military attaché in the United Arab Emirates, and on return to his home country, was named a garrison commander, then in 1981 he was appointed as the commander of an armored parachute brigade.

Throughout the ‘80s Omar was building a name for himself in the military of Sudan, and reached the rank of colonel. He led the group of army officers in the Sudanese coup d’état in 1989 when he and his loyal officers dethroned Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi in a bloodless military coup. He formed a military government that put all political bodies and operations out of power, and implemented an Islamic legal code for the whole country. He assumed several leading positions of the country, including chief of state, chief of the armed forces, prime minister and minister of defense, while also creating the Revolutionary Command Council for National Salvation, which was the leading political body of the state at the time, with Omar as its Chairman. Before he became President officially, he collaborated with Hassan al-Turabi, who at the time was the leader of the National Islamic Front, and the two started implementing Sharia law across the country.

He named himself President of Sudan in 1993 and disbanded all political parties that were opposed him. Three years later, elections were held and Omar became President of Sudan with a quasi-legal support. Since then, he has been elected President two more times, however, the elections are regarded as questionable for their validity, and Omar himself has been accused of corruption, but he remains Sudanese President.

Aside from corruption, Omar’s reign is also marked by the second civil war which lasted until 2005, and resulted in creation of a new country, South Sudan in 2011, then war in Darfur, for which he was charged with mass crimes against civilians, however, apparently due to the lack of evidence, charges were dropped. Subsequently, military intervention in Yemen has occured, during which Omar joined Saudi Arabia against the Shia Houthis and other Islamic people that are loyal to dethroned Yemen President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Omar’s net worth has benefited greatly from his reign, since Sudan has become one of the most oil exploited countries, from which sales Omar has massively benefited.

Regarding his personal life, Omar has two wives; he is married to his cousin Fatima Khalid, and Widad Babiker Omer. Omar doesn’t have his own children but is a father to a number of children of his wife Widad, as she was previously married to Ibrahim Shamsaddin, who was a part of the Revolutionary Command Council for National Salvation but had tragically died after his helicopter crashed.
