Emmylou Harris Net Worth $15 Million

Emmylou is a child of Marine Corps officer Walter Harris and his wife, Eugenia. Her father spent ten months as a war prisoner in Korea, but eventually returned to his family. Emmylou grew up in Woodbridge, Virginia, and attended Gar-Field Senior High School, matriculating as class valedictorian. Thanks to her good grades, she earned a scholarship for the UNCG School of Music, Theatre and Dance at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. There, she focused on music big time, and eventually dropped out of formal studies to dedicate herself fully to music. She moved to New York City, and started working as a waitress, while also performing folk songs in local coffee houses.

Soon she fell in love and married songwriter Tom Slocum, and he was the main producer on Harris` debut album “Gliding Bird”. However, the album wasn`t quite as successful as she hoped, and her life was beginning to fall apart out; she divorced Slocum, and returned to her parent`s home, with her new born daughter. For several years she was out of the music scene, but returned in 1971 as a member of the trio, which featured Gerry Mule and Tom Guidera. However, that didn`t last long, as she then joined former Byrds member Gram Parsons on his debut solo album “GP”, and became a part of his new band Fallen Angels. Unfortunate again, Parsons died in 1974, and Emmylou began to work on her solo album. Produced by Brian Ahern, “Pieces of the Sky” came out in 1975 and was a complete success. It reached No. 7 on the US Country chart, while it also achieved gold status, and was followed by “Elite Hotel”, released the same year, topping the US Country chart, and also being certified gold, which only increased Emmylou`s net worth and encouraged her to work further.

She continued to dominate the charts during `70s with albums “Luxury Liner” (1977), which also topped the charts, “Quarter Moon in a Ten Cent Town” (1978) and “Blue Kentucky Girl”, both reaching No. 3 on the charts. Nothing drastic changed for Emmylou in the 1980s, as she continued to enjoy fame, with albums “Roses in the Snow” (1980), “Cimarron” (1981), “Thirteen” (1986), and “Bluebird” (1989) all certainly helping to increase her net worth.

However, in the `90s, her popularity began to decline and she received less airplay since the stations focused on new wave performers. Still, she released three albums, but without any major success. Nevertheless, she returned in the 2000s, with albums “Red Dirt Girl” which reached No. 5 on the US Country chart, continuing with releases “Stumble Into Grace” (2003) and “All I Intended to Be”, which reached No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.

She is also a praised team player; she collaborated with Linda Ronstadt and Dolly Parton on the album “Trio”, which came out in 1987 to platinum status in the US, and No. 1 on the US Country charts.

During her career, Emmylou has received numerous prestigious awards, including 13 Grammy Awards, three CMA Awards and two ACM Awards, among many others.

Regarding her personal life, Emmylou has married and divorced three times. Her first husband was the already mentioned Tom Slocum, although lasting only a year, and they had a daughter. Emmylou married producer Brian Ahernin 1977, and their marriage lasted for seven years, before they divorced, during which time the couple had a daughter. In 1985 she married Paul Kennerley, but the couple divorced in 1993.

She is recognized for her activism and humanitarian work; she has held numerous beneficial concerts, supporting numerous organizations, including Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation, PETA and others.
