Derren is the son of Chris and Bob Brown and has a brother who is nine years younger than him. He went to the private Whitgift School, located in South Croydon, and after matriculation, enrolled at the University of Bristol, where he studied the German language and Law. During his college years, Derren became interested in illusions and hypnotism when he went to a hypnotist show by Martin S Taylor, and from then on, decided that illusion and hypnosis would be his career.
