David grew up in a musically-inclined family; he loved to perform as a child though he had reservations about performing in public. He attended the institute IES Al-Andalus but dropped out of his final year to work in a municipal nursery. Later on, he would be discovered by the producer of Orchestra Expressions who invited him to become part of the orchestra. He was then encouraged by colleagues to try his hand in singing competitions.
In 2001, Bisbal joined the first ever edition of “Operacion Triunfo” which is the Spanish version of “Star Academy”. He became one of the 16 contestants and would reach the final, getting the runner up position behind Rosa Lopez. His success at the competition led him to join the “Eurovision Song Contest” in which he took second place again.
