Although born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Bryant grew up in the small community of Gans, Oklahoma, where he went to high school. Following matriculation, Bryant enrolled at Oklahoma State University in 1991, where he started playing basketball, and as a 7-footer and nearly 300 pounds, dominated the basketball court and led his team to the Final Four in 1995. After a successful season, Bryant declared for the 1995 NBA Draft, and was selected by the Vancouver Grizzlies as a sixth pick overall. In his rookie season, Bryant started 63 games and played in 77 games overall, averaging 13.3 points, and 7.4 rebounds per game; this was enough for him to be selected for the NBA All-Rookie Second Team. The following season, Bryant started in 75 games, and improved his scoring and rebounding to 16.2 points with 8.1 rebounds per game,. Thanks to his great performance, Bryant received a contract extension, worth $61.8 million over six years, which increased his net worth to a large degree.

The extension had a positive effect on young Bryant as his next season was the best in his career, playing in 74 games and averaging 16.3 points, 7.9 rebounds with 1.1 blocks per game.

Unfortunately, his weight began to present a problem and injuries kicked in, including chronic back pain, which limited him to only 25 games in the 1998-1999 season. Bryant returned for 1999-2000 season, but his numbers declined drastically, which continued also in 2000-2001. After the 2001 season, the Grizzlies moved to Memphis, but Bryant never played a competitive game for the new team as his back pain forced him out of a pre-season game on a stretcher, carried by eight teammates. He retired during the 2001-2002 season.

Regarding his personal life, Bryant is married to Amy, with whom he has four children. The Reeves family resides on a large cattle ranch outside Gans, Oklahoma, owned by Bryant.
