Though he does have an older sister, Lesley Evans, Barry was the oldest of the three Gibbs brothers – the twins Robin Gibb and Maurice Gibb were born several years after him, when the family had already moved to live in a different part of Douglas. Later, the family would move to live in Manchester, and it was there that the three future Bee Gees”first entered the world of music, forming the band The Rattlesnakes together with two of their neighbourhood friends, but which was disbanded when the Gibbs moved away to Australia in 1958.

It was in Brisbane, Australia that the world-famous Bee Gees first came to be. Barry Gibb had been composing and writing songs for a while before then, but it was while working together with his two brothers that Gibb’s talent truly shone through.
