Anil is the son of film producer Surinder Kapoor. He studied at Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School, and after matriculating, went to St. Xavier’s College. During this time, one of his first film opportunities came when he was 15 years old – a part in “Tu Payal Mein Geet” in 1971. However the film wasn’t released into movie theatres.
His true film debut would come eight years later, appearing in a small role in the Hindi film “Hamare Tumhare”. Soon he would be given lead roles in films such as “Vamsa Vruksham”, “Who Saat Diin”, and “Pallavi Anu Pallavi”.
