Born in Pennsylvania, USA, Steel fell in love with acting at a very young age. She attended Westtown School of Dramatic Arts to hone her passion for acting. After attending for two summers, she joined the Barley-Sheaf Players and starred in two of their productions, but then decided to put on hold her acting career, and attended Kent School in Kent, Connecticut. Despite not being able to finish at Kent, she continued her studies at a small college in Palm Beach, Florida, taking up communications and broadcasting.

Steel’s acting career started in 1979 when she moved to New York, and made her debut on television when she appeared in the soap opera “Guiding Lights” from 1980 to 1981. She also made a guest appearance in “All My Children” playing the role of Peggy Warner. Her early years as an actress helped her career and also her net worth.

In 1981, Steel’s career took a turn for the better when she earned the role of Ginny Field in the horror film “Friday the 13th”. From a small budget, the film became a box office hit, and one of her most memorable performances.

The following year, Steel went back to television and appeared in “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” and “Family Ties”. She was offered a return to film “Friday the 13th Part III” to reprise the role of Ginny Field but declined so as not to be stereotyped, agreed to make a cameo appearance. She also had a supporting role in “Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter” in 1983.

Other notable films Steel made in the ‘80s included “April Fool’s Day”, “Walk Like a Man”, and the TV film “The Red Spider”, as well as appearances in various TV series including “Jake and the Fatman”, “Quantum Leap”, and starred in “Perry Mason: The Case of the Reckless Romeo”. Her various projects certainly helped her career and also increased her wealth.

Steel continued acting in the ‘90s, appearing in guest roles including in “Viper”, “Diagnosis: Murder” and “American Gothic”, and starring in TV films “Ray Alexander: A Taste of Justice”, “The Innocent”, and films “Flake” and “Tycus”.

In 2003, Steel appeared in her last film “A Time to Remember”, then decided to take a break from acting, and actually went back to school and became a psychotherapist.

In 2009, Steel appeared once again on television, but this time in a documentary entitled “His Name was Jason: 30 Years of Friday the 13th”, and also in the documentary “Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th”.

Today, Steel is practicing as a family therapist in Calabasas, California. The last film she appeared in was “Tales of Poe” in 2014.

In terms of her personal life, Steel has been married to Peter Pulitzer since 1986, and together they have two daughters.
