Amber used to be a typical American teenager, who loved parties and dreamed of opening a beauty parlor when she grew up. She had a younger sister named Candace who died of SIDS, when Amber was only 5 years old. At the age of 17, when Amber was in high school, she discovered one day, that she was pregnant. She was shocked and dropped out of the school. Child’s father was Gary Shirley, her boyfriend of two and a half years. On November 12, 2009, she gave birth to a daughter whom she named Leah Leann Shirley. She appeared on the MTV reality-based TV series “16 and Pregnant”, which features the real problems faced during teenage pregnancies and motherhood afterwards. The program showcased the lives of four such girls and Amber was one of them.
She was alone, abandoned by the family, insecure, frightened, stressed, worried about her daughter’s and her own future, her abandoned studies and her dream of owning a salon, and had to opt for living with boyfriend Gary, with whom she had many issues and problems. All this pressure made her abusive, aggressive and even violent. She started taking drugs and having violent physical fights with Gary.
